The 2009 R1 model features Yamaha's Crossplane Crank, engine technology from the M1 MotoGP bike, the first ever production motorcycle to do so. It delivers very strong but smooth power. The sound on this bike is amazing and unique, unlike any other inline-four. It produces a precise and throaty exhaust note.
The 2009 model is exactly the same as the subsequent 2010 and 2011 R1 models--just different paint schemes.
