Lab Mix "Romeo" Needs a new home!

Color: Black/grey/white, with topaz colored eyes (he is a beautiful dog). He weighs approx. 62 lbs/full grown. He is smaller than your average lab.
Personality: Loving, gets along well with other dogs, and he just loves his humans! He knows how to shake paws to get a treat, and is very smart; could be taught other tricks if you spent the time with him. He is completely housebroken. He walks around like he is a tough guy, but he can be such a sissy in thunder storms/fireworks and hide in the closet. He is very funny and loves attention. He will alert you to a stranger, but he is not a guard dog (not aggressive).Romeo’s story: Born in late October 2010 (he’s 2.5 yo), he was adopted from Barrow County animal shelter in GA just before he and his brothers/sisters were scheduled to be euthanized. In GA, he had a large fenced yard with a doggie door into the house. He loves to run and explore and has been completely housebroken from the beginning. He is also micro chipped and neutered.
In late 2012, we moved from GA and downsized into a townhome with no yard (job relo). Romeo has had a very difficult time adjusting to the lack of yard and no room to run and just be a dog. He developed a condition called “happy tail” (his tail kept hitting the walls in the small home and it wouldn’t heal), so we had to have his tail amputated to allow it to heal. He has a very funny exaggerated hip swing now when he walks, but has healed fine from the surgery. Romeo’s boy went away to college which added to the adjustment problem. Romeo is such a great dog, full of personality (he thinks he is a human), but he is obviously becoming depressed by the situation (boy gone, no place to run). Short of “puppy prozac”, my vet feels that it would be in his best interest for me to find a home for Romeo that has a fenced yard, kids to play with, and even other dogs around. I am beginning to look for a home for him, and we will take the time to make sure it is the right fit. He is not a 100% outdoor dog; I’d say he would prefer 50% inside and 50% out. He is up to date on all shots and has been taken care of by Healty Petz in Spring Hill since moving to TN.
Requirements: Family that will show him lots of love and attention, fenced yard is an absolute requirement (preferably with a doggie door), other dogs that are not too aggressive, probably best with older kids vs younger (only because of his size). I don’t know how he is around cats, he has never been around any. My son and I are very, very sad about this, so we will take the time needed to make sure this is a good fit!
